Social work alumnae Jéssica Flores-Washington moved to St. Louis in 2006 after completing her MSSW at UT-Arlington to begin work at Optimist International as their International Development Manager.
Jéssica is responsible for managing around 100 Optimist Clubs worldwide. She says that her role in International Development is to manage the clubs and members outside the U.S. and Canada, so “being bilingual and bicultural as well as having studied Cultural Diversity have really enriched my ability to effectively communicate with clients in Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia and in our strongest market this year, Africa.”
Her job involves a lot of marketing, advertising and public relations roles at the macro level rather than “traditional hands-on social work.” She is proud to be a part of an organization that has served over 6 million children in their communities in 2007.
