Dr. Paul Ammons presents at conference

paulNovember 13-18, 2006.

Dr. Paul Ammons, Professor of Social Work and Director of the ACU School of Social Work,  recently presented a lecture on Globalization and Social Justice at the University of Buenos Aires. The University of Buenos Aires, which enrolls close to 300,000 students, is one of only three institutions in Latin America ranked among the top 200 universities in the world. UBA is ranked ahead of such well-known universities as Georgetown and Notre Dame (USA), the London School of Economics (UK) and Beijing University (China).

Ammons looked at the effects of international policies and corporate practices on social inequality and culture in the developing world.  A self described “social capitalist,’ Ammons pointed to various ways to manage globalization for the benefit of the poor and vulnerable of the earth.

UBA has asked Ammons to design a certificate program in Globalization, Social Justice and Culture. The eight week summer program is scheduled to begin in May 2007 and will attract students from a variety of majors from universities throughout the world with an interest in the effects of globalization on social inequality and human rights. The program will combine classroom study with service learning experiences inn non-profit agencies that address issues that work with persons experiencing poverty.
