Jessica Moore ('12) | Speech Pathology
Communication sciences & disorders
major from McAllen, Texas
Most people take the ability to communicate freely and with fluidity for granted, but Jessica Moore does not. For Jessica, a desire to help others communicate has helped her find the perfect major - and her life's calling.
A senior in ACU's Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, Jessica intends to pursue a master's degree in speech pathology, and along the way she hopes to fulfill God's purpose in her life.
"As cliché as this may sound, I feel as though I was called to do this and I am very pleased with the speech pathology department," Jessica said. "This people-orientated department allowed me to study such an important issue: communication."
Jessica transferred to ACU as a sophomore and found herself immersed in a community committed to her. She describes her professors as mentors and friends. and said she hopes to make them proud some day.
"The biggest surprise that I had here at ACU was the professors. Each and every one of them cares about your well being and want nothing but the best. These men and women want every student to graduate with a pursuit of happiness," Jessica said. "I never imagined that professors would devote their lives to our dreams and try their best to make it happen."
Jessica currently works for the ACU Call Center and is a member of the Student Action Leadership Team. She is also a participant in the National Student Speech Language Hearing Association. For Jessica, the decision to transfer to ACU has made all the difference in her life.
"I can honestly say that if I were to have gone anywhere else I would be lost. Lost spiritually, goal wise and without the right mentors to lead me in the path that pleases Him," she said. "I know without a doubt in my mind that I made the right decision to come to ACU. I couldn't see myself anywhere else."
Jessica believes ACU's speech pathology program and the campus culture in general have given her a chance to grow both spiritually and mentally.
"I have learned exactly what responsibility is. I have embraced it and learned from my mistakes. Being a lifelong learner, I believe that every day I am able to grow more as a person."
