Dr. Halstead has been on the faculty of the Department of MFT at Abilene Christian University since 1998. She has served as Department Chair since 2005. She is currently President-Elect of the Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and will begin her two-year term as President in March 2010. Jackie adheres to Narrative Therapy as her primary modality, but along with the other faculty, believes it important to have a solid understanding of all the primary models of MFT. Her research interests lie in the following areas: ethics of therapy, spirituality, attrition and retention of women faculty, missionary and expatriate care, and clergy care. Dr. Halstead is President of Halstead and Associates, PC, a private practice, and Director of the Highland Counseling Center, a church-based practice. She is a professional speaker and speaks in both national and international venues in the areas of mental health, relationship issues, and spiritual formation. She serves as a consultant to the university, church, and various community organizations.
Jackie was raised in Canada and Montana and has been married to Randy for the past 28 years. They have two daughters in college. Randy is the Executive Director of a non-profit, Hope Haven of Abilene, Inc. that offers transitional housing for the homeless. Both are involved in issues of social justice in the Abilene community.
