Sara joined the faculty of the Department of Marriage and Family Therapy at ACU in 2009. She ascribes to the scientist-practitioner model of training graduate students in that her mission is to train competent, systemic therapists who espouse Christian values and ethics and are critical consumers and producers of research. In addition to her teaching role in the department, she is responsible for mentoring students in research and providing supervision for off-site internships in Abilene. Her research agenda includes using qualitative methodologies to study Latinas in the criminal justice system, and she is also published in the area of identity development of individuals who share African American and American Indian ancestry. She is also interested in attachment bonds and the practice of Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Sara is a Licesned Marriage and Family Therapist in the state of Washington and is currently pursuing licensure in the state of Texas, where she was active as president of the student association of the Texas Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. She is a clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy and is working toward Approved Supervisor status with the AAMFT.
