Dr. Gailyn Van Rheenen served as missionary in East Africa for 14 years, thirteen among the Kipsigis people of Kenya.

Since 1986, Gailyn has taught in the Department of Missions at Abilene Christian University.

He is the author of five major texts in missions: Missions: Biblical Foundations and Contemporary Perspectives (Zondervan, 1996), Missions Alive! (ACU Press, 1994), Communicating Christ in Animistic Contexts (Baker Book House, 1991; William Carey Library, 1996), Biblically Anchored Missions (Firm Foundation, 1983), and Church Planting in Uganda (William Carey Library, 1976). Currently he is writing two books: Status of Missions in Churches of Christ with Bob Waldron and Becoming Redemptive with his wife.

From 1996 to 1999 he served as national Vice-President for Publications of the Evangelical Missiological Society.

He is currently is an elder of the South 11th and Willis Church of Christ in Abilene, Texas.

In addition to advising missions students and missions teams throughout the world, Gailyn conducts congregational seminars, entitled Becoming Redemptive, in North American churches to provide spiritual and strategic insights to guide churches to transition from nominalism to compassionate outreach both at home and abroad.
