Collin Packer | Bible, Missions and Ministry

Collin Packer and wife

When Collin Packer left ACU for Colorado in 2008, he merely left the physical campus behind.

He took the best part - his experiences, education and relationships - with him.

The professors nurtured me in an environment where I was able to ask difficult questions and grow spiritually at the same time.

Collin, who grew up in Dallas, earned a bachelor's degree in Christian ministry from ACU in December 2005 and a master of divinity degree in May 2008.

A month later, he was off to Littleton, Colo., where he currently is the preaching minister at Littleton Church of Christ. Thanks to his ACU experience, Collin knows that he is well-prepared to face challenges and to embrace opportunities.

"ACU's Bible department prepared me with wonderful academics, authentic spiritual mentoring and life-long friendships that will be resources I will draw from for years to come," he said.

A fourth-generation ACU student, Collin was well aware of what the university had to offer before enrolling. But knowledge passed on from others - even relatives - isn't the same as experience. Collin discovered "an incredible blessing" once he was on campus as a student himself.

"The professors nurtured me in an environment where I was able to ask difficult questions and grow spiritually at the same time," he said.

In fact, that environment played a huge role in Collin's decision to enter the ministry.

"If it wasn't for the encouragement and discernment of professors who saw God's call on my life to ministry," he said, "I would have never pursued a life in ministry."

Collin saw his life take shape at ACU in more ways than one. Interactions with professors and students helped formed his future in the ministry. A children's ministry major named Holly Patton helped shape his future as a husband and soon-to-be dad.

Holly graduated from ACU in 2005. The couple later married and are expecting Maddox Austin Packer to make his appearance on June 30.

Now that Collin is an ACU alumni with two degrees, he can speak authoritatively about the difference his years at ACU made in his life - now and in the future.

"I am a better Christian, a better minister and a better man because of my years at ACU," he said.
