David graduated from Abilene Christian University with his bachelor's and master's degrees. He earned his doctorate from Temple Baptist Seminary.
He came to ACU after serving as a church staff member in several congregations. In addition, to his teaching he consults with congregational leaders in the areas of Christian Spiritual Formation, Missional Church, and Shepherding.
