Degree objectives

With this major, you will:

  • Study and reflect on worship as a way to partner with God’s Spirit in forming church communities into the image of Christ.
  • Learn the ways that music can spiritually form a congregation.
  • Gain a solid theological foundation in the Bible, both Old and New Testaments, and a basic understanding of New Testament Greek.
  • Study the principles of New Testament doctrine and how those are applied to daily life and ministry. By studying both music and church history, students will look at the ways that music has historically been used to worship God.
  • Study musical traditions from non-Western cultures, learning how to help people of various cultures praise God in their own language and their own “heart music.”
  • Through music conducting and ensemble classes, students will learn to form, work in and direct musical groups and arrange music for those groups to perform.
