Our Mission

Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Bible, Missions and Ministry is to provide preparation for congregational leadership through biblical and theological studies and Christian spiritual formation for effective worldwide ministry in the cause of Christ.

To accomplish this mission, our department seeks to embody the following values and skills in our majors students:

  • Majors will cultivate knowledge, habits and skills of personal and communal spiritual formation.
  • Majors will be able to exegete (interpret) the biblical text and apply the biblical message with appropriate contextualization.
  • Majors will identify aspects of culture that would equip disciples to live out their Christian vocation. In the context of globalization, majors will formulate a missional perspective.
  • Majors will demonstrate the ability to reflect theologically and integrate theological principles into the practice of ministry.
  • Majors will identify and interpret the broad scope of the history of Christian thought. Majors will give specific attention to the Stone-Campbell heritage.
  • Majors will develop the skill of servant leadership in practical contexts of missions and ministry.

The Department of Bible, Missions and Ministry also exists, however, to serve the entire student body. Our mission to all ACU students seeks to bring about the following:

  • Students will cultivate behaviors that nurture spiritual growth.
  • Students will become more competant readers of Scripture.
  • Students will engage in inductive and deductive theological reflection.
  • Students will act in ways that show a love for and commitment to the Church.
  • Students will integrate their Christian faith, education, career plans and family goals and envision their unique life plan.
  • Students will value God's creation and recognize the global mission of Christ to all peoples of the world.
