A 54-HOUR NON-THESIS PROGRAM

The purpose the M.A. in Missions is to provide a scholarly yet practical foundation for engaging in an effective proclamation of the Gospel. The members of the faculty have significant field experience and scholarly expertise in domestic and foreign missions to accomplish this purpose.

Mentoring, team building and assessment are available to students in the missions department for field readiness preparation. It is recommended that all students take advantage of these services early in their graduate program. Special attention is given to missions team building, and each student is mentored weekly.

Degree Requirements

Advanced Standing

Students who have already taken 6 hours among the following courses (or their equivalents) will receive advanced standing, i.e., will not need to take them again. If 6 hours among the following courses have not been completed, students will receive pre-candidacy standing until they have been completed.

Comprehensive Exam

An oral defense will be required of those who write a thesis. A written and oral exam will be required of those who opt for the non-thesis track.

Certificate Requirements

Students without an undergraduate degree in missions, the student must take:

• Advanced menu, 9 hours
• Missions core, 3 hours
• Domestic or international track, 3 hours
• Missions elective, 3 hours

Students with an undergraduate degree in missions must take:

• Missions core, 9 hours
• Domestic or international track, 6 hours
• Missions elective, 3 hours

A certificate may be taken for audit or credit. If courses are audited, all assignments must be done and all exams must be taken on a pass/fail basis. Only courses taken for credit can be "rolled over" into a graduate degree.
