"…All of this great host of the past—and you of the present—have been and are like the originals: people of great faith, determination and hope. Ladies and gentlemen, this is no ordinary college that we have the privilege of being a part of."
Don H. Morris Seventh President of ACU Sept. 27, 1973 |
When A. B. Barret arrived in Abilene on a cold December day in 1905, he had little more than a dream of establishing "a school that would be a fountainhead of Christian education in the West." From its beginning as Childers Classical Institute, Abilene Christian University has grown into an institution with world-wide influence. Our alumni are serving around the globe in the name of Christ, and for almost 100 years ACU, graduates have touched literally nations of people.
Barret, if he were alive today, would be awed by what he and others began in 1906. When he and the presidents who followed him thought "West," that was thinking big for that time.
From its beginning as Childers Classical Institute, Abilene Christian University has grown into an institution with world-wide influence. Its alumni, as Christian men and women, are serving around the globe. Its preparation of men and women in missionary skills has had an eternal effect on nations of people.
Engraved at the base of the Tower of Light is "I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life." (John 8:12) It is our passion that the light of the world—the good news of Jesus Christ—will radiate from this place with ever increasing brilliance and efficacy. And it is our hope that you will join us in this great commission.
