Practicum Program
The Practicum Program provides in-depth laboratory learning experiences in every phase of technical theatre production:
- Sets/Lights/Sound
- Props
- Costumes/Makeup
- House Management
- Stage Management
- Box Office
- Recruiting
- Special practicums by petition: Dramaturgy, Grant Writing, Web Mastery, etc.
Each semester students majoring in Theatre or receiving teacher certification in theatre will be required to work in one of these areas and will receive 1 hour credit.
Students must complete 7 hours of THEA 137 (Theatre Practicum) by the end of their degree program.
Practicum is also offered during Maymester and Summer sessions. Some Maymester/Summer practica start earlier or last longer than other classes.
The Maymester/Summer practica is your option if you elect not to take practicum during a spring or fall semester, or if you drop or fail a practicum during these semesters. You may not double up by taking two practica in one semester or during the same time period.
Each practicum requires you to log 60 hours.
In addition to hours accrued, you will be evaluated on the quality of your work, your willingness to complete the assigned tasks, punctuality, and positive attitude.
The required text for THEA 137 is the ACU Theatre Student Handbook (available online).
