Describe a memorable event or image in an ACU play in which you have performed, directed, designed or crewed or one you've seen here.
I will never forget what was said at the talk back of [title of show]. A woman who had attended 'The 39 Steps' had come to see this show as well, raised her hand to ask us a question and instead gave us an incredible moment to cherish as actors. She told us that her husband had recently died, leaving her in a very dark place, but that she had laughed for the first time since the funeral at 'The 39 Steps' and had the same joyous experience during [title of show]. That was all. She simply wanted to thank us for bringing a glimmer of joy and laughter back into her life. That is the power of art- a stunning phenomenon to take part in as an artist.
How has faith impacted your journey as an artist?
My art would not survive without my faith. My faith gives me confidence in God's authority and a subsequent hope for what the future might bring. When asked "Why Theatre?" all I can say is simply, "Because that's what I am supposed to do." There is a foundational faith required to survive in this field- I find mine through the Almighty God who gives me strength. Confidence. Others find it in their training, their connections, or themselves. But I could never consider those things a solid rock to stand on. This industry is demanding and will drain you until you have nothing left to stand on but your absolute convictions, and that's why I have chosen to be convicted of God's authority and master plan. Romans 8:25- "But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently."
What advice do you have for a prospective theatre major?
Be confident in who YOU are. No one is looking for anything more or less. Your professional career starts the moment you get here and you want to start as you- not as a reflection, dream, or hope of something more than what you are at this point in your life. (Everyone knows you are talented. That's why they chose you.) Set goals and you will attain that future "self". Here is where you receive the tools.
Spend a semester in New York City, studying with Broadway professionals and Tony Award-winning instructors.
