Pope Fellows To Austin

At the capitol

For the last four years, Pope Fellows have had the opportunity to escort the entire fourth grade class from Fannin Elementary, a local Title 1 school, to Austin, the state capitol.  The children have an opportunity to experience a day in the life of a state senator or representative on the floor of the Senate or House, explore Texas history at the Bob Bullock Museum, and all with friends and a new ACU buddy (and role model).

This March, students met and had an opportunity to learn from their State Representative, Susan King.  They also experienced the multimedia presentation "The Star of Texas" at the Bob Bullock Museum, with its realistic thunder, rain, and even "snakes" under the chairs!

This opportunity is made possible through the efforts of the Abilene Christian University Pope Fellows, Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society, and the ACU Students' Association.
