Physics Research at ACU

ACU has been relying on undergraduate research involvement for over thirty years.  Our students are not merely observers in the research process; they are active, well-trained participants who are entrusted with key responsibilities.  Below are just a few of the exciting opportunities for you to get involved in research here at ACU.

Summer 2007 Research

PHENIX:
The Pioneering High Energy Nuclear Ion eXperiment currently running on the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL).

The Crystal Ball:
A baryon spectroscopy experiment that ran at BNL and is now being analyzed.

Conference Experience for Undergraduates (CEU)
:
CEU is an opportunity provided by the Division of Nuclear Physics for undergraduates who participated in nuclear/particle physics research to attend a national nuclear physics conference.

Fermilab Experiment 906:
This is the follow up experiment to the very successful Fermilab E866/NuSe.

Spotlight

Quick Facts:

  • ACU undergrads have been co-authors on more than 100 physics research papers. These papers have been cited over 3,400 times.
  • The monthly salary of ACU students participating in summer research is $1,500 plus the cost of housing and travel to national laboratory.
  • In the past 10 years, ACU has sent more undergraduates to Conference Experience for Undergraduates at the Division of Nuclear Physics of the American Physical Society than any other university in the country.
  • ACU undergraduates have participated in nuclear physics research at 7 accelerator facilities, including Los Alamos, St. Pertersberg Nuclear Physics Institute, Brookhaven, and Fermi National Laboratories.
