Susan Teel joined the Abilene Christian University music faculty in 1997 as an adjunct professor of piano. She began teaching Introduction to Music classes in 2001 and achieved full-time status in 2004. She currently serves as instructor of music education, musicology, and piano. She is an active performer, playing viola with Strings Unlimited, a local string quartet, and serving as the accompanist for various musical theater productions at ACU and in the Abilene Community. Mrs. Teel holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree with piano emphasis from Abilene Christian University, and a Master of Music Education degree from the University of Georgia.
As a member of the ACU music faculty, Mrs. Teel teaches piano lessons for non-majors and classes in music appreciation, music literature, elementary music education, and aural skills. She also serves at the liaison to the Education Department, supervises elementary and secondary choral student teachers, and assists seniors in preparation for the state certification exam, the TExES.
Mrs. Teel and her husband Allen have performed for thousands of elementary school children in Abilene and the surrounding area under the auspices of Young Audiences, Inc., a locally administered national organization that sponsors arts in the schools. Their duo, Strike Two, uses a wide array of percussion instruments to teach students about musical styles from around the world.
