Marcia Rives Straughn serves as the adjunct flute instructor at Abilene Christian University and Hardin-Simmons Univerisity. She ia a past winner of the Texas Flute Society Festival Undergraduate Competition and the Abilene Collegiate Concerto Competition and took second prize in the 2002 Kentucky Flute Society's Young Artist Competition. She has also been a semifinalist in both the Flute Talk Competition and the Myrna W. Brown Artist Competition. She has performed in masterclasses across the country for renowned flutists such as Geoffrey Gilbert, Goran Marcusson, Stephen Preston, and Keith Underwood. Her teachers have included Judith Bentley, Mary Karen Clardy, Helen Blackburn, Fred Allen, and Barbara Rives.
Ms. Straughn received her B.M. from Abilene Christian University in 1993 and her M.M. from Hardin-Simmons University in 2003. She is a member of the Déjà vu Woodwind Trio, the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra, the Abilene Opera Orchestra, and the Abilene Chamber Players and teaches private flute lessons to students of all ages.
