Lucy Dawson

Lucy Dawson has loved playing horn ever since she first picked it up as a 9 year old.  After an active high school career, including first chair in the Wisconsin All-State Orchestra and numerous ensemble and solo state level first awards, Lucy studied horn under Barry Benjamin at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.  While a student, Lucy also performed with the various professional groups in the area: with the Milwaukee Symphony, the Milwaukee Opera Orchestra, the Milwaukee Brass Quintet, and the new music group, Present Music. During a study-abroad year in Germany, Lucy played with the University Orchestra in Bonn, and studied under Erich Penzel and David Brian in Cologne, Germany. After graduate study, Lucy played 4th horn with the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra for several years while preparing for live and work in China.  She and her husband then spent 7 years in P.R. China as Christian Professionals.  After returning to the States, Lucy has again developed a busy horn teaching and playing schedule.  She teaches local college and high school students and free-lances with numerous local groups, including performances with the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra, the Abilene Opera, and the Abilene Chamber Players.
