Derek Brown bio

Derek Brown is the Director of Jazz Studies and an instructor in saxophone and theory at Abilene Christian University. He grew up in western Michigan and earned his Bachelor of Music at Hope College in Holland, Michigan, double majoring in jazz and classical performance. He received his Master of Music in jazz studies from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music.
Mr. Brown has performed a wide range of musical styles in many different venues over the past decade. From Cincinnati's Blue Wisp jazz club to performances throughout the Midwest with his
jazz/bluegrass hybrid group Afterthought, he has performed in ensembles that featured many well-known artists, including Arturo Sandoval, Terri Lyne Carrington, Fred Hersch, John Fedchock, Marvin Stamm, and Fred Sturm. He and his wife Rachel live in Abilene, TX.
