Steel Grooves

The Abilene Christian University Steel Drum Band, also known as Steel Grooves, a component of the ACU Percussion Ensemble has been a vital part of the Abilene musical community since it was established by Dr. Allen Teel in 1992. The group maintains an active performing schedule, both on the ACU campus and in the Abilene area. In addition to playing for numerous civic and private engagements, the ACU Steel Drum Band has been featured as guest artists with the Abilene Philharmonic Orchestra and Classical Chorus of Abilene, and has performed in such prestigious venues as the Wortham Center in Houston and the Morton H. Meyerson Symphony Center in Dallas. In November, 2000, the ensemble had the privilege of performing as part of the Texas Mass Steel Band at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention in Dallas.
