Activities
The department has many opportunities for both formal and informal student-student and student-faculty interaction.
Mu Sigma (mathematics club) sponsors several activities each year.
Work in the Department
Many of our students work in the department as graders, tutors, teaching assistants, and lab assistants. If you are interested in working for the department, please contact us.
Scholarships
The department awards a several mathematics scholarships to qualified upperclass majors each year. The scholarships are awarded during the spring semester for the following academic year. To be eligible to receive the scholarship, you must be a mathematics, actuarial science, or mathematics teaching major and you must have earned at least 60 credit hours by the start of the fall semester of the award year. Selection is based upon evidence of ability and scholarship in mathematics or mathematics teaching and evidence of a commitment to the study and achievement in mathematics or mathematics teaching. Some evidences of commitment include active membership in Mu Sigma, participation in mathematics contests, and service to the department and/or students.
West Texas Scholars in Computer Science and Mathematics (WTSCSM) is a federally funded scholarship program designed by the department. For more information, visit the WTSCSM web page.
Students Present at Conference
Two students from ACU presented at the Texas-Oklahoma Regional Undergraduate Symposium (TORUS) on February 24, 2007, at Ada, Oklahoma.
Curtis Graham presented on Curves of Constant Width: The Reuleaux Triangle and Ruth Kelly presented on Identifying, Quantifying, and Combatting the Unknown: Mathematics in Anti-Terrorism Efforts.
