West Texas Scholars in Computer Science and Mathematics (WTSCSM) is a federally funded, National Science Foundation scholarship program designed by the Department of Mathematics at Abilene Christian University. The objectives of the program are to attract, retain, graduate, and place academically talented students in the technological workforce or in a graduate program in computer science or mathematics.
The program will provide a total of 60 yearly scholarships over a four year period. There are six awards available for the 2008-2009 school year. The maximum award will be $3,125.
Applicants must do the following to apply:
- Complete the West Texas Scholarship in Computer Science and Mathematics application.
- Complete the admissions process at ACU.
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Send copies of high school transcript and either SAT or ACT scores to the director of the scholarship program.
Applicants will be ranked by their perceived interest in pursuing a career in computer science or mathematics, academic preparation, standardized test scores, and financial need.
According to federal guidelines, scholarship recipients must be citizens of the United States, Nationals of the United States as defined in section 101 (a) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, admitted as refugees under section 207 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, or aliens lawfully admitted to the United States for permanent residence.
The deadline for completing the application process is March 15, 2008. Applicants will be notified in writing of their award status no later than May 1, 2008.
