Advertising/Public Relations

Requirements:
- JMC core, 19 hours: JMC 100, 102, 210, 342, 310 or 451, 488, 495
- Advertising/Public Relations core, 9 hours: JMC 301, 391, 492
- Concentration to be selected from one of the following:
- Advertising, 12 hours, JMC 390, 392, 6 hours of JMC selection approved by adviser
- Public Relations, 12 hours, JMC 390 or 223, 392, 341 or 450, 3 hours of JMC selection approved by adviser
- 6 hours: MKTG 340 and MKTG 344 or MGMT 330 (may count toward marketing support field)
- Support field, 15 hours: including 6 advanced hours from art or marketing (preferred), communication, English, ethnic and women's studies, political science, psychology or sociology
- Electives, 13 hours: including deficiency requirements in science and foreign language

How to get involved as an Ad/PR major:
- Join or become an officer in the Advertising/PR Club, which includes a membership in the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) or the American Advertising Federation (AAF).
- Work on the department's student-run advertising/public relations agency.
- Help with event planning, including the annual Gutenberg Dinner and Senior Sanctuary.
- Participate in meetings of the Abilene Ad Club and the Abilene Public Relations Organization.
- Attend PR and advertising seminars, conferences, event planning and career-day events.
- Work in the university's marketing, public relations or sports information offices.
- Sell advertisements or write for the Optimist, ACU's student newspaper.
- Volunteer for KACU's pledge drive.
