John L Robinson joined the Department of History in 1965 and his service includes ten years as chair. His specialties are Latin America history and Asian history, and he also teaches America history.
Robinson's books include David Lipscomb: Journalist in Texas; Bartolome Mitre: Historian of the
Americas; and Living Hard: Southern Americans in the Great Depression. He is currently completing a book on anti-Hispanic attitudes in contemporary American culture. He has authored numerous articles for academic journals in the United States, Asia, and Europe as well as for academic reference volumes. In addition he has served as a historical photographer and photo reference editor for a book on the city of Abilene and has presented numerous papers at professional conferences.
Professor Robinson has from time to time conducted study-abroad projects for ACU students, leading classes to both Latin America and to Europe. His foreign area interests are built on his years of pre-ACU residence abroad while with the U. S. Air Force and as a missionary.
