Why History?

The study of history seeks to understand the present state of the world through the currents of the past and the global complexities of the present. At ACU our History & Global Studies Department strives to provide an understanding of the experiences of humankind, to stimulate thought concerning various institutions, ideas and cultures, and to promote ethical standards in keeping with the Christian faith. The study of history prepares its students by developing critical thinking, research, and writing skills. At ACU our faculty invites their students to engage with history, to be a part of new research, and to challenge their previous understanding of the past. Students are encouraged to work in their field, during their time at ACU, through internships and work study programs.

The skills developed through the study of history prepare its graduates to work in:

  • Museums
  • Education
  • International Development and Aid Organizations
  • Government
  • Journalism
  • Law, and many more.
