Medical Mission Trips: Spring Break and summer medical missions are hosted by ACU medical and dental alumni throughout the world. ACU provides Body & Soul students with an opportunity to assist in the healing of the body while helping students understand the need for spiritual healing. This experience along with a written summary of the insights gained from the medical mission, gives our students a distinct preparation advantage.
You do not have to be part of the Body & Soul program to participate, but if you are in the Body & Soul program medical mission trips are a requirement.
What our students and alumni of the Body & Soul Program have to say about their medical mission experiences.

Amy, pre-med: The mission trip I took to Guatemala was absolutely amazing. I was given the opportunity to obtain hands on experience that I never would have had in the United States. I scrubbed in and assisted the opthamologist in several cataract surgeries. By playing an active role in the surgeries, I actually got a taste | |
| of what it will like to be a doctor one-day. Even more wonderful was the feeling I had the next morning when we took the patients’ eye patches off for the first time. They were so excited and thankful to finally be able to see again, and I knew that I had been a part of it all. After my experience, my desire to be a doctor greatly intensified. I know that I want to be able to bless people in this way someday. | ||
Abbey, pre-med, biochem major on African medical mission trip Summer 2006.
Abbey, pre-med biochemistry major, in The Village of Hope Orphanage, Ghana, Africa during her World Wide Witness Internship, Summer 2006. Abbey said, there are over "12 million orphans in Sub-Sahara Africa calling out for love." Torn by civil wars, disease, and political and economic havoc, too many African adults are dying and unable to support the logarithmic increase of orphans who are left to fend for themselves. Abey went on to say, "Never did I imagine how much I would learn over the course of a six-week internship." We worked in the school at the orphanage, observed at the health clinic, and lead children's church. Abbey encourages us all when she said, Good works have been prepared in advance for us to do if we will only be courageous enough to do them.
