Come experience Montevideo, Uruguay and change your life.

When I was in college, study abroad programs were not as prevalent as they are with today's college students. In fact, I have always wondered why parents would pay all of this extra money for their student to have this experience. I now know the answer.

I had the privilege of traveling to Montevideo, Uruguay on behalf of ACU. My mission was to visit the hospitals, doctors and dentists and determine their willingness to allow ACU students to come and "experience" their country's health system. I had the honor of spending several hours with a local Christian physician who has a passion for the underprivileged. He leaves his private office and goes to the shanties to treat people. He said he would love for our students to work alongside him.

God opened my eyes and heart in Montevideo as I witnessed the differences in their health care system from what I am used to in America. It reminded me of my own experience. Several years ago I needed heart surgery, it was planned and executed quickly. In Montevideo, those who have a heart condition have to wait 4-6 months to have a simple test done. Patients who are considered "at risk" may die before they can have the procedure done.

This trip left me feeling fortunate to live in a country with such a great health care system, but more than that it inspired me. I felt motivated to not only keep our American health care system growing even stronger, but also to help strengthen other health care systems around the world. I pray that our Body and Soul students will participate in this wonderful opportunity and will find the same inspiration that I did.
