The ACU Department of Foreign Languages offers the
B.A. Degree in Spanish


B.A. Degree Requirements in Spanish

Departmental requirements for the B.A. in Spanish are as follows:

  • Principal Spanish courses, 24 hours, in advanced-level courses at ACU or in approved programs of World Class.

  • Supporting language: Intermediate proficiency in a second foreign language (FL**221 and 222, or equivalent; or elementary proficiency (FL**111 and 112) in two foreign languages other than the language of one's major.

  • A minimum of 9 hours in residence.

  • A minimum GPA of 2.25 for courses in major.


Minor in Spanish

A foreign language minor requirements are as follows:

  • Intermediate language courses, 6 hours (FLSP 221, 222, or equivalent.

  • Advanced-level language courses, 12 hours (300-400) in Spanish.

  • A minimum of 6 hours in residence.


Spanish for Teacher Certification

Students interested in teaching Spanish at the secondary school level may complete the BA Spanish for Teacher Certification degree.  Specialized courses oriented toward the profession strengthen student preparation professionally and linguistically.  The degree plan meets all of the requirements set forth by the Department of Foreign Languages and the Department of Education.  Students should complete acceptance into the Teacher Certification program at ACU at the beginning of their Sophomore year and meet with the Advisors for Education to insure compliance with the newest State of Texas rules.
