Who or what is doing the action?

Does the verb express an action?

If the verb is acting, find the direct object—Who or what is receiving the action?

To find the subject and verb, say: who/what + verb (who/what sees, plays, gives, eats)

To find the direct object, say: verb + whom or what (sees whom, plays what, gives what)
