Freshman English Credit

Policy for Earning Credit for English 111 and 112


Automatic Credit for 111/112 (6 hours):
1. Students who score a 4 or 5 on the AP English Literature exam receive credit for 111 and 112.

Automatic Credit for 111 (3 hours):
1. Students who score 32 or above on ACT or 750 or above on SAT receive credit for 111.

2. Students who score a 4 or 5 on the AP English Language exam receive credit for 111.

3. Students who score 64 or above on the CLEP Freshman College composition exam receive credit for 111.

Students Eligible to take the English Essay:
1. Students who score 29-31 on the ACT or 710-740 on the SAT are eligible to take the English Essay offered during Passport or the first week of school. If they pass the English Essay, they receive credit for 111.

2. Students who score a 3 on the AP English Language exam and pass the English Essay receive credit for 111.

3. Students who score a 3 on the AP English Literature exam and score a superior pass on the English Essay receive credit for 111 and 112. Students who score a pass on the English Essay receive credit for 111.

4. Students who score a 55 on the CLEP Freshman College Composition exam and pass the English Essay receive credit for 111.

5. Students who score a 64 on the CLEP Freshman College Composition exam and score a superior pass on the English Essay receive credit for 111 and 112.

Note: Freshman students must enroll in English unless they have completed their English requirements (University Catalog, p. 24).
