Person who influenced your life: My aunt, Pauline Slovak, returned to school in mid-life to earn a doctorate and teach English at Eastfield College. Why you do what you do: I became an English teacher because I love learning and literature. I stayed in higher education because I see the incredible transformations most students experience in college. Education changes lives. I marvel that I can participate in this amazing process. |

What you want to give your students: Communication skills, whether oral or written, are essential to success in any career. As important as job training is, however, vocational education is not enough. I want students to find joy in learning and view reading as a way to understanding life. This is the true value of English studies. |

What you expect from your students: I enjoy working with students whether freshman or graduate, major or non-major. Students in my classes should expect to work hard, but they should also expect clear instructions, active learning, and fair grading. Come in my classes ready to learn. Why you are at ACU: At ACU, I can teach the whole person, without the artificial borders separating spirituality from education that exist at most state schools. |
