This information is aimed at three kinds of students: those who have chosen an English major but not a university; those who have chosen ACU but not a major; and those who have chosen both ACU and the English major. English is a great major, and ACU has rich opportunities for students to pursue it. The Department of English has an average of 70-80 undergraduates majoring in English or English with Certification, and an average of 10 graduate students. Advanced courses and graduate courses are taught by a dozen faculty members. More than 95 percent of ACU English majors who apply to graduate schools gain acceptance.
The department serves the university by providing over 900 students with core curriculum courses in composition, world literature and British literature, and Business and Professional Writing. It also organizes the campus literary magazine The Shinnery Review (successor to The Pickwicker, published at ACU since the 1930s). Submission to and editing of this magazine are open to all students.
