- Bachelor of Arts
- Bachelor of Arts with Teacher Certification
- Master of Arts
The BA degree plan has more elective hours than many others, permitting students to add a second major or a variety of courses that fit their career plans—e.g., courses in accounting, computer science, marketing, philosophy, history, Bible or psychology, or further courses in literature and writing. For details, see the section on the Department of English in the Undergraduate Catalog.
Students who want to teach English in secondary schools will choose the BA with Certification or the BS in Interdisciplinary Studies with English as a major field. On the latter degree, refer to the section on the Department of Education in the Undergraduate Catalog.
The Master of Arts degree prepares students to teach in two-year colleges or to pursue doctoral study, and provides advanced training for secondary school teachers and those who wish to enter careers in writing. Students may choose a literature, writing, or composition emphasis. The degree requires 36 hours of coursework and involves thesis and nonthesis options. Graduate assistantships are available.
