Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, where he was a leader in the church youth group, MacArthur High School Student Council Treasurer, President of the National Honor Society, high school graduation ranked 6 of 622, Patrol Leader and Eagle Scout for Troop 238. Married (1969) Ada Miller Dodd, four children (Jeremy, Matthew, Philip and Jennifer), seven grandchildren. Carley serves as an Elder at Southern Hills Church of Christ and is active as a professor, researcher, and administrative leader, missions, corporate and non-profit consultant, and national speaker. He is Founder of Go Culture International, a web-based intercultural assessment organization.
