Degrees and Majors
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at ACU offers these programs of study:
- Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Biochemistry - degree designed for students preparing to enter professional schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or optometry, or who wish to enter the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industries.
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Biochemistry - degree designed for students pursuing careers as professional biochemists, or who wish to prepare for graduate degrees in biochemistry. This degree offers three tracks: a standard biochemistry track, an American Chemical Society (ACS) approved track, and a health science track.
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemistry - approved by the American Chemical Society (ACS), this degree follows ACS guidelines to prepare students for careers as professional chemists or for graduate studies in chemistry.
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemistry for Chemistry Teacher Certification - this degree combines rigorous chemistry instruction with extensive teacher preparation, equipping students to teach high school chemistry (certified grades 8-12).
- Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Chemistry for Physical Science Teacher Certification - this degree combines rigorous chemistry instruction with extensive teacher preparation, equipping students to teach high school physics, chemistry, and related subjects (certified grades 8-12).
- Health Professions Cooperative Degree (B.S. in Biochemistry track) - a "fast-track" degree offered in cooperation with some professional schools, that enables students to enter professional schools of medicine, dentistry, pharmacy or optometry after completing three years of undergraduate studies at ACU.
- Minor in Chemistry - for students wishing to add chemistry as a supplement to another major field of study.
The ACU Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry trains students to be exceptional Christian servants and leaders in chemical and biochemical careers.
