Cynthia (Beam) Alwine ('96) became the 100th alumnus of the ACU Department of Chemistry to earn a Ph.D. Cynthia earned a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from Brandeis University.

The first Chemistry Alumnus who earned a PhD was Floyd Dunn ('44) in 1950. Since then, Chemistry alumni have earned PhDs from Harvard, MIT, the University of California-Berkeley, and many others. Counting the M.D.s, D.O.'s, O.D.'s, and various other doctorates, the department now has 210 alumni with doctorates. ACU ranks 10th nationally among SIMILAR SCHOOLS with 834 doctorates. The department of chemistry and biochemistry is responsible for over 25% of all University alumni who have received doctorates.
