Meet Evan Hardegree
Evan Hardegree, alumnusclass of 2006, currently studying medicine at Texas A&M University Medical School

On our faculty:

The professors are great. They really care about the students and this comes out in their teaching. They want the students to learn and are always eager to answer questions. One of the best things about the biology department is the accessibility of the professors. No one is too good or too busy to talk to the students. If we ever had any questions the professors were always more than happy to stay around to listen, discuss and explain.

Seeing a professor's fascination with a subject makes it much more exciting to learn. Dr. Lee's expertise and enthusiasm made Zoology and Ecology interesting for the students.

Dr. Bian is a major  asset to the biology department. He is extremely knowledgeable about all the topics he teaches, yet he is still very accessible to the students. It is both his expertise and his humility that make him a great teacher.

On our courses:

I really enjoyed Dr. Brannan's General Biology class. This was my first real exposure to a lot of new concepts and ideas in the major and it really opened my mind, allowing me to explore things I had never thought about before.

Dr. Mattis's Human Anatomy course was very challenging and the knowledge I gained from it was a great asset to me as I went through my first semester of medical school.

On getting an ACU biology education:

Students sometimes wonder if the education they receive at ACU is comparable to the education they might receive at a larger, public institution. In my experience, my education in the biology department and, indeed, at ACU as a whole, has prepared me very well for medical school. I am not at any disadvantage compared to my classmates from bigger schools around the nation. I got a great education at ACU and if I had it to do over again I would do it all the same.
