I received my BS in Biology from ACU in 1981 and my DDS from the University of Texas Dental Branch in 1985.I maintained a private dental practice in Corpus Christi for 10 years and accepted a position in the Biology department in 1995. Since that time I have taught University Seminar, Biology–The Human Perspective, Anatomy and Physiology I & II, and Human Anatomy. I have also advised pre-health students, with particular emphasis on dentistry. In 2002 I accepted the position as Dean of the First-Year Program, but continue to enjoy my relationship with the Biology department as an associate professor.
My wife Mary Lee and I have two children, Caroline and Holton, who enrich our lives beyond words. Mary Lee works as the Adult Faith Minister at the Highland Church of Christ where I also serve as a Bible Class teacher and elder. We love our faith community and our service to the Lord brings light and joy to our lives.
Teaching for me has truly been a calling whether it is working with first-year students in their transition to the university, talking with a student about the challenges of being a health care provider, or preparing students for gross anatomy in professional school. I have also enjoyed the medical/dental mission trips with students over the last eight years to Guatemala as we worked side by side showing others the love of Jesus. I see my role at ACU as an ambassador for Christ, challenging students to bring Christian truth to bear on every aspect of their lives. At ACU, I am in a position to encourage young men and women to live integrated, Christ-centered lives of faith, service and leadership. I enjoy participating in their journey of self-discovery, identifying their God-given dreams, gifts, and talents. Being at this place has been a calling from God and a ministry of Christ. To participate in this kingdom work has been one of the greatest blessings of my life.
