Painting Concentration (BFA)*
The concentration in painting requires students to successfully complete 6 courses (18 hours) within the discipline, culminating in a senior exhibition of independently produced work. Students are expected to describe, explain, and defend the body of work they have produced and place it within the context of historical and contemporary painting.
The degree enables students to develop a strong foundation in the fine arts through coursework in design, drawing, art history, and art theory. Plus, it demands the development of a broad repertoire of skills through the study of sculpture and printmaking and opportunities for coursework in ceramics, photography, illustration, and graphic design.
After completion of the senior capstone course, students will possess a professional entry-level portfolio of work and the knowledge and skills to begin building a career in art. An additional goal of our program is for exceptional students to produce portfolios that make them attractive candidates for strong graduate programs in art.
*Our newly revised BFA degree was designed to match standards set by NASAD (National Association of Schools of Art and Design) and CAA (College Art Association) for professional degrees in the fine arts.
