A Maymester class, Bottomland Hardwood Ecology, is being proposed by Prof. Emmet Miller and Dr. Michael Nicodemus. We will stay in homes the first weekend in and around Canton, Texas. Monday morning early we will depart for Streetman, Texas, to work with the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and their joint venture with Tarrent Water District on a 2000 acre wetland and bottomland along the Trinity River. Water conservation and filtration, wildlife habitat, hardwood ecology, etc. will be discussed. We will be camping out that week in various state parks, visiting the Nachadoches Plant Material Center, the northern portion of the Big Thicket and a couple of other venues. We plan to return to Abilene on the 22nd. Wrap up and presentations will be made in class on the 26-27th.
This class will count as an upper level elective within the department. It WILL NOT count as a Biology elective.
