Medina Children's Home 2008 Mission Trip

As a part of its goal of combining learning and service to the world around us, the A&E department has made a November tradition of traveling to the Medina Children's Home, located in Bandera County, about 25 miles southwest of Kerrville, Texas.  The Home is “committed to providing a safe haven and a Christian environment for children and single mothers with families and leading those individuals to a life of good and productive citizenship in the kingdom of God and the United States of America”.  Established in 1958, the home has given loving homes to countless children and single families. A&E has been visiting Medina Children’s Home for the last 4 years. This year was no exception. We loaded up 20 students, faculty and staff for a weekend of hard work, fellowship, and service. Our students took to heart 1 John 4:19 “We love because He first loved us.” Our intention was to go and serve others, yet we left having received so much more than we gave as we witnessed the loving mentoring of young boys and girls by Christian men and women. The major job for the team this year was picking pecans with the children and teenagers for about 6 hours on Saturday.  Everyone was tired and hungry by the end of the day, but still had hearts filled with joy in service.  Several students spent most of the day on the Saturday preparing and grilling chicken for about 150 people – thank you Jon and Jason! We played games late into the night, drank loads of coffee, hot apple cider and hot chocolate, spent time in worship at the Stringtown Road Church of Christ, and formed lasting friendships! The department and students are so excited about returning again next year that we have already circled fall break in 2009 as our next---extended!---Medina Children’s Home trip.
