FFA State Convention in Dallas
Representatives of ACU’s Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Department engaged in more than 200 conversations with individuals and groups attending the 81st Texas FFA Convention in Dallas, July 7-10.
This was the seventh time A&E representatives attended the convention and the first time they were joined by partners from the ACU Admissions Office. A&E faculty and staff who helped man the booth for two and a half days were: Doug Fair, University Relations Manager-Dallas; Katy Goss, ACU Admissions Counselor; Mandy Scudder, Administrative Coordinator for A&E; Kaitie Kirkpatrick, Senior ANSC major from Richardson, TX.
According to the FFA website FAQ’s, “FFA is a dynamic student-led leadership development organization for students of agricultural education. The FFA changes lives and prepares students for premier leadership, personal growth and career success.” (www.texasffa.org). ACU participants witnessed that leadership and growth.
This year’s conference set a new registration record of 11,598. Students from across the state were encouraged by keynote speakers, participated in officer elections, voted on important business, took part in social activities, and had the opportunity to spend time in the Agricultural and Environmental Sciences Department booth as they considered where to attend college.
Conversations with A&E faculty and staff focused on the department and its programs, ACU’s mobile learning initiative, being a faith based university, and what kind of an education a student will receive by majoring in an A&E department program. We were kept busy and on our toes for two and a half days.
We are excited about the 82nd convention that in Corpus Cristi, July 13-16, 2010. We hope to see you there!
