What is service-learning?
"Service learning is a credit-bearing educational experience in which students participate in an organized service activity that meets identified community needs and reflect on the service activity in such a way as to gain further understanding of course content, a broader appreciation of the discipline, nad an enhanced sense of civic responsibility." Bringle and Hatcher (1996).
How is course-based service-learning different from co-curricular community service or volunteerism?
Cocurricular community service or volunteerism is not based on learning outcomes for a course. This includes courses with community service requirements that do not relate to learning goals in the discipline.
