<div class="sectionTitle">Faith/Learning Faculty Institutes</div><div class="text"></div><div class="text"><p><font face="SansSerif">The Adams Center for Teaching Excellence conducts faculty institutes on faith and learning for faculty members at ACU. These institutes are offered during the winter and summer breaks and are limited to 15 faculty participants.</font></p><p><font face="SansSerif">Faith/learning institutes are designed to point to God in our scholarship and teaching and point students to God. Participants read specified books before the institute begins, then engage in lively discussion and practical application. Sessions run for one week, meeting three hours each day.</font></p><p><font face="SansSerif"><b>Faculty Summer Institute 2002<br /></b>The faith/learning summer 2002 institute was led by Dr. Paul Lakey, Adams Center Scholar-in-Residence, during the week of July 8. Participants valued the time for reflection on faith and learning integration, the readings that provided scaffolding for their thinking, the stimulating discussion with peers from other disciplines, and the spiritual impact of recognizing the sovereignty of God in our ministry and mission as faculty members.</font></p><p><font face="SansSerif"><b>Faculty Winter Institute 2002<br /></b>ACU's first faith/learning institute took place the week of January 8, 2002, and was led by Dr. Paul Lakey, Adams Center Scholar-in-Residence, and Gary Tucker, Director of Faculty Development and Instructional Development. Participants read and discussed <i>How Christian Faith Can Sustain the Life of the </i>Mind by Richard Hughes, <i>Quality With </i>Soul by Robert Benne, and a number of articles and chapters from other books. They shared ideas about applying theological reflection to scholarship and teaching, discussing challenges posed by specific courses they teach.</font></p>  </div>
