Summer II Publishing Workshop led by Caron Gentry
June 1-22, Mondays and Tuesdays for hour hours each day
The goal of this workshop if to create an interactive environment where faculty can tailor their book prospectus for two publishers.
Cap on attendees: 10 participants will be selected, and each will receive a $300 stipend. Please submit an application by May 4th for consideration. Application will include name, department, working title, how far along your project is, and a paragraph-long book proposal summary.

June 1-23, Mondays and Fridays
Week 1
June 1: Overview, focusing on finding a publisher and their prospectus requirements, determining audience, evaluating competition, finding appropriate reviewers
June 2: Lab day, using library resources to find above
Assignment for Week 2: Writing up above for the two chosen publishers
Week 2
June 8: Peer-review of homework in small groups, all group evaluation of results, questions
June 9: Panel on "Juicy Writing," overview of good writing, knowing your audience. All contributing to writing the Chapter-by-Chapter Description/Outline, and Book Overview Sections.
Assignment for Week 3: Writing the Chapter-by-Chapter/Outline and Book Overview for two chosen publishers
Week 3
June 15: Peer-review of homework in small groups, all group evaluation of results, questions
June 16: Writing the Full Proposal/ Bringing it all together
Assignment for Week 4: Writing full proposals for both publishers
Week 4
June 22: Peer-review of homework in small groups, all group evaluation of results, questions
June 23: Where do you go from here? (Agent, Keeping in touch with publisher, evaluating the contract and royalty percentage), Dealing with "Back Matter Process" (galleys, marketing, getting the blurbs)
