Elmer Gray Stadium

Elmer Gray Stadium Entrance

The all-weather track at Abilene Christian University was remodeled in 1990. A new nine-lane Rekortan surface was installed, the track was converted from 440 yards to 400 meters, and new facilities for all field events were constructed.

Gray Stadium has a seating capacity of about 4,000, and was the site of the 1993 NCAA Division II outdoor national championship meet, and the 1960 U.S. Olympic Trials for women. The pressbox provides seating for sportswriters, radio stations, competition officials and stadium announcer.

The stadium is named for the late Elmer J. Gray, a graduate of Roscoe, Texas, High School and Abilene Christian. The former Beaumont businessman was the first Wildcat student-athlete to compete in the U.S. Olympic trials (1932), and he was a two-time finalist in the half mile at the NCAA championships (1931-32). Gray is a member of the ACU Sports Hall of Fame.
