Dr. Royce Money was born July 13, 1942, in Temple. He graduated in 1960 from Temple High School and then enrolled at Abilene Christian, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1964 and a Master of Divinity degree in 1967. Money was the vice president of the Students' Association his senior year and then assistant to the dean of students from 1964-66.
He received a Ph.D. in religion from Baylor University in 1975, and in 1982 he received a master's in human development and the family from the University of Nebraska.
Money joined the ACU faculty in 1981 as an associate professor of marriage and family therapy. He moved to the Bible department in 1984 to help develop and direct the ministry program. He was named chair of the undergraduate Bible and ministry department in 1986, and he became chair of the graduate Bible and ministry department and ACU's first director of the Doctor of Ministry program in 1987. He then served as executive assistant to the president and in 1988 became vice president and provost. He became president of the university in 1991.
He has served on the 44-member NCAA Council and as president of the Lone Star Conference, chair of the Abilene Chamber of Commerce, board and campaign chair of United Way of Abilene, chair of Independent Colleges and Universities of Texas, and chair of the Council of Christian Colleges and Universities.
Money has been involved in ministry roles more than 20 years and in university-level teaching for more than 15. He has served as a pulpit minister for congregations in Silver Spring, Md.; Montgomery, Ala.; Springfield, Mo.; and Dallas. He has taught as an adjunct faculty member at Southwest Missouri State University. He is a member of Abilene's University Church of Christ.
He also has spent the past decade speaking regularly at universities and churches across the nation, civic organizations, and workshops aimed at strengthening families, youth, married couples and divorce victims. He is the author of two books: "Building Stronger Families: Family Enrichment in the Home, Church and Community" (1984) and "Ministering to Families: A Positive Plan of Action" (1987).
Money married Pam Handy Jan. 23, 1965, in San Antonio. They have two married daughters who are also graduates of ACU, Alison Elliott and Jennifer Crisp, and five grandchildren.
