Dan Garrett serves as vice chancellor of ACU and president of The ACU Foundation.
For the past 31 years, Garrett has worked in the arena of fund development for not-for-profit organizations. He spent 11 years on the development staff of Abilene Christian University, where he personally directed major campaign efforts in both annual giving and estate planning.
In 1984, Garrett joined the Baylor Health Care System Foundation, as vice president until October 1, 1994, when he formed The Garrett Group--a development and planned giving consulting firm.
His professional experience has included face-to-face work with donors, as well as the training of development professionals, and extensive consultation with financial planning professionals. From 1987 through the summer of 1994 he served as a featured lecturer for planned giving training seminars conducted by Gordon M. Caswell & Associates, Inc.
Garrett has overseen the creation and implementation of plans for estates ranging from the most modest to nine figures in size. He approaches the task as an advocate for the individual donor/family, and in so doing has helped to close gifts and trusts in amounts ranging as high as $26.5 million.
Garrett holds the Bachelor of Science degree in business from Abilene Christian University. In 1985 he received the Certified as Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designations. He has also received professional certification from the Association for Healthcare Philanthropy (CAHP).
Garrett's work in the not-for-profit arena extends beyond the professional realm. He regularly serves in volunteer and official Board capacity for a number of charitable organizations. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of the Dallas/Ft. Worth Chapter of IAPP, and the North Texas Chapter of the National Committee on Planned Giving.
Garrett received an Alumni Citation from ACU's College of Business Administration in 1994, and he was selected as an Outstanding Young American in 1975, 1977 and 1980. He has served on the boards of Christian Homes of Abilene, Foster Home for Children in Stephenville and Southwest Christian Schools in Fort Worth. He currently serves on the board of the Boy Scouts of American for the 13-state southern region.
Before accepting the position of vice chancellor in 1995, Garrett served as president of the Alumni Association from 1989-91 and was named to the Board of Trustees in 1991. He also served as coordinator of the President's Circle.
Garrett is an elder at Southern Hills Church of Christ. He and his wife, Donna, have three sons, Grant, Mack and John.
